Detail of: What Remains Will Be Cradled Found fishing net, dye, handwoven linen and horsehair. It is open space that exists after the loss of something that once belonged to us. What do we do with hollow space that once contained life? When we lose something, there will always be space for something new. I found this piece resonating with the collective during this month/eclipse season. The pain and grief some of us are moving through - you are never alone, and you will always be cradled. ❤️ 📷 @glass.rice
The Things That Were, The Things That Are, The Things That Will Be. Handwoven linen, horsehair and found rope. This piece is currently installed at the International Linen Biennale at Saint Joseph’s church in Deschambault, Quebec until September 29, 2019. In Plato’s Republic (Book X, Myth of Er), a soldier named Er died in battle. When the dead were collected from the battlefield, they all decomposed except for Er. When he was taken home for burial, he was left on the funeral pyre. He resurrected back to life and told the story of what he had seen on the afterlife. Er claimed that when his soul left his body it traveled to many places, to which one of those places was the Spindle of Necessity. The Spindle of Necessity is a device that reveals a life review of all things past, present and future. It operates by the three Moirai, or Fates: Clotho (to spin or create life), Lachesis (to weave life), and Atropos (to cut life). The Moirai would sing in unison to the “things that were, the things that are, and the things that will be”. If we can listen to our truest of truths, we can gain access to our own Spindle of Necessity. ❤️

THE WOVEN TAROT: TAROT AND THE FOUR CLAIRS June 29th & 30th 11am-4pm At @spirithousecollective I am so excited to be back at Spirit House! Of the Bygone Familiar I 🌑 Handwoven linen, ramie, found rope, dye 🌑 In European folklore, familiar spirits were believed to be supernatural entities that would assist witches in their magical practices. They would often appear in numerous guises; often as an animal or creature. The main purpose of familiars were to serve the witch and provide them protection as well as to come into their power. 🌑 Bygone Familiars are the remains of once-animate entities that protect us in all aspects of life.
